After racing Porsches since its inception nearly a decade ago, a new chapter for Flying Lizard Motorsports will begin next year, as the California-based team makes the switch to a new manufacturer for the inaugural .

The two-time American Le Mans Series GT class champions, which also won this year’s GTC teams’ title, announced Monday that it will campaign two R8 LMS in the GT Daytona category.

The first four-and-a-half hours of Saturday’s Six Hours of Shanghai saw a commanding performance from . Yet when the checkered flag flew on the on penultimate round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, it was Audi reigning supreme.

Benoit Treluyer, Andre Lotterer and Marcel Fassler combined for victory, their third of the season, while a third place finish for teammates Allan McNish, Tom Kristensen and Loic Duval was enough for the trio to clinch the 2013 Drivers’ World Championship.

What looked to be a sure-fire win for Toyota, which ran 1-2 for much of the race, began to unravel in the fifth hour. Anthony Davidson was forced to retire his No. 8 TS030 Hybrid from the lead with suspension failure.

Toyota will start Saturday’s Six Hours of Shanghai from the pole position as it searches for back-to-back victories in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Nicolas Lapierre and Alex Wurz, winners last time out in the rain-shortened Fuji round, combined for a four-lap average of 1:48.013 in their No. 7 Toyota TS030 Hybrid in qualifying Friday in China.
