John Edwards saved his best for last in Friday’s second practice session for the Orion Energy Systems 245 at Road America. Edwards lapped the 4.048-mile circuit in 2:04.711 (116.853 mph) in the No. 56 BMW North America, LLC/Crowne Plaza BMW Z4 GTE. His best lap came in the final minute of the session, knocking Marc Goossens – who led the day’s first session – out of the top spot in GT.
Lucas Luhr kept the No. 6 Muscle Milk HPD ARX-03c on top of the overall charts with a lap of 1:52.106 (129.991 mph), 5.467 seconds ahead of Chris McMurry in the No. 16 Mazda/Thetford/Norcold Lola B12/60 Mazda.
Quickest in the P2 class was Johannes van Overbeek in the No. 02 Tequila Patrón HPD ARX-03b at 1:57.573 (123.947 mph). Simon Pagenaud, 1:57.969 (123.531 mph), and Marino Franchitti, 1:58.407 (123.074 mph) rounded out the top three.
Goossens fell 0.108 seconds short of sweeping the day’s practice sessions in GT with a lap of 2:04.819 (116.751 mph) in the No. 91 SRT Motorsports Viper GTS-R. Jonathan Bomarito was third in the No. 93 Pennzoil Ultra SRT Motorsports entry with a lap of 2:04.882 (116.693 mph).
Colin Braun led promising youngster Tristan Nunez in the No. 05 Composite Resources ORECA FLM09 in the Prototype Challenge presented by Continental Tire class with a quick lap of 1:58.783 (122.684 mph). Nunez, 1:59.534 (122.362 mph), and Bruno Junqueira were the only other cars under the 2-minute mark.
The No. 30 MOMO Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of Sean Edwards led the always competitive GTC class at 2:12.632 (109.874 mph). Jan Heylen was second in the No. 11 Hertz Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, just 0.063 second back with a lap of 2:12.695 (109.822 mph).ALMS, BMW Team RLL, Road America, Sports Cars
