F1 video: Burti’s damaged helmet returned 13 years after terrifying accident

Luciano Burti’s career came to an abrupt end on the fifth lap of the 2001 Belgian Grand Prix, after an attempted pass on Eddie Irvine in the blanchimont turn led to a head-on collision into the tire barriers.

Now, 13 years later, the helmet that helped save his life has been returned to him, with the mud and dirt from the accident still plastered over it.

Lewis Hamilton was in something of a low key mood at Spa after dropping from pole to third place, thus losing points to both and in the title fight.

Hamilton clearly wasn’t happy about being overtaken first by Vettel and then Alonso, and not having the speed with which to hold on to either of his rivals.

Sebastian Vettel took a step closer to his fourth World Championship title by scoring a dominant win in Belgium.

Vettel dragged past pole man on the straight after Eau Rouge on the first lap, and thereafter was never under threat. He now has a 46 point advantage over his nearest rival, .

American GP3 Star Conor Daly Scores Double Podium At Spa-Francorchamps

U.S. race fans have desperately been searching for a current day American racer to compete and succeed in , but to no avail.

GP3 standout and Indianapolis-native  may soon change that.

Daly, son of former F1 racer Derek Daly, wasn’t able to score a win at , but a double podium effort places him in prime position to score his first GP3 championship.

“It was awesome to get two second places in a weekend,” Daly said. “That’s pretty good after some of the weekends we’ve had previously. It’s good to be in the points fight now.”
