MotoGP: Aleix Espargaro tops Open class for eighth time in nine races

’s Aleix Espargaro continued his domination of the Open class at the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.

The eldest Espargaro brother was one of 14 riders to start from pit lane in Germany after a hectic start to the race, heavily influenced by a pre-race shower.

Espargaro had a cautious start to the race, not wishing to push too hard through Turns 12 and 13, which were still quite wet. As the track dried Espargaro’s pace improved, the Spaniard eventually finishing in sixth position.

Valentino Rossi is travelling to the in a distinctly relaxed fashion, having last week inked a new two-year contract with Movistar Yamaha MotoGP which keeps the nine-time World Champion with the team until at least the end of 2016.

It was on Wednesday after the previous race at Assen that the new Rossi-Yamaha contract was formally announced, with ‘The Doctor’ now able to fully concentrate on the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.

MotoGP: Can Marquez make it nine out of nine in Germany?

If Marc Marquez keeps winning, he will wrap up this year’s MotoGP world title at MotorLand Aragon – regardless of what his rivals do. In order to do that, the Spaniard would need to claim a fifth straight victory at Germany’s this weekend.

21-year-old Marquez is no stranger to the Sachsenring. In fact, he’s won there on his last four attempts: in the 125 class in 2010, in the Moto2 class in both 2011 and 2012 and in his first MotoGP German Grand Prix last year. On each of those occasions he was coming from pole position.
