Formula 1 Prepares For Singapore GP

Formula One will replace the history and speed of for the bright lights of Singapore this weekend, as the only night race on the calendar takes place.

Racing under 1,600 specially made flood-lights, the 22 best drivers in the world will tackle the tight and tricky Marina Bay Street Circuit.

With no margin for error, the circuit is a true test of both driver and machine. It requires a high downforce setup and strong traction and grip out of the slow chicanes and hairpins.

Webber damaged his wing when passed by Alonso early in the race, but he gained a place back when he passed Felipe Massa at the pit stops.

A gearbox oil pressure issue caused the team to tell him to shift early to protect his equipment, but there were no further problems.

“It was good to have a clean weekend from start to finish and then fight for top positions, which was certainly the case today,” said Webber. “The start was pretty good but both Sebastian and I, I think, compared to the Ferraris, were not as strong off the line.

Sebastian Vettel is odds on to extend his big Formula One lead over after qualifying for the in pole position.

Vettel already leads Alonso by 46 points and will be confident of moving further clear of his rivals, given that Alonso starts Sunday’s race from fifth on the grid and — who is third overall in the title race — from a lowly 12th.
