Pol Espargaro’s 2013 success signals his first title win in the World Championship. The 22-year-old Spaniard becomes the fourth Moto2 World Champion and the 107th different rider to win a title in the history of the World Championship.

The younger brother of racer made his World Championship debut as a wildcard in 2006, at the Circuit de Barcelona situated barely ten minutes’ drive from his Granollers home. From 27th on the grid, Pol would finish that 125 race in 13th position to become the youngest ever rider to score points in the World Championship, barely one week after his 15th birthday.

Espargaro Brothers Swap Two Wheels For Four Wheels In Barcelona

Despite three gruelling weeks as the calendar took them from Indianapolis to Silverstone via Brno, Aleix and were back in action this weekend as they competed in the 24 Hour Trofeu Fermí Vélez car race in Barcelona.

The event took place at the newly-named Circuit de Barcelona , as local men Aleix (Power Electronics Aspar, MotoGP) and Pol (Tuenti HP 40, ) joined a field of 63 entrants.

The Granollers pairing competed in a Renault Clio Cup for Black Motorsport, sharing the car with Ignacio Escofet and Jordi Gaig. The four-driver team ended the twice around-the-clock event in 39th position and eighth in the A2 class, having encountered technical problems as well as an off-track excursion during a heavy rainstorm.

“I’m really happy – I enjoyed it a lot but now I am a bit tired!” Aleix commented. “The car was destroyed by the end because we had a lot of bumps with others, but we enjoyed it a lot; it was definitely a good experience and I hope we can repeat it in the future.”
