IndyCar: Bourdais pleased with new track, fastest in first practice

Four-time Champ Car World Series champion and former F1 driver Sebastian Bourdais was quickest in opening practice at the newly configured Indianapolis road course Thursday morning.

“We had a good test on the new road course last Wednesday,” said Bourdais, “I have to say I had some reservations early on because the corners (of the new racetrack) are very tight, but the grip more than makes up for it.”

Red Bull has played down the significance of Sebastian Vettel getting a brand new chassis for this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Just days after the reigning world champion struggled to match teammate Daniel Ricciardo’s pace in China, Dr. Helmut Marko said the team was looking into whether Vettel’s RB10 – affectionately dubbed ‘Suzie’ by the German driver – was damaged.

The configuration of the pallbearers at Ayrton Senna’s fabled funeral was changed at the last minute, the F1 legend’s former personal assistant has revealed.

Betise Assumpcao told Brazil’s Agencia Estado that when she arrived for the 1994 funeral, she discovered that Jackie Stewart and Alain Prost were scheduled to be the lead pallbearers.

Sunday’s race in Monterey may have only lasted 66 laps for the DeltaWing, but the team is looking at the positives from the day.

Despite retiring from the 2-hour TUDOR Championship race with transmission issues, the DeltaWing team was able to display impressive straight-line speed and fuel mileage.

Azerbaijan on Wednesday denied reports it could step in to replace this year’s endangered Russian Grand Prix.

Earlier, Germany’s Welt newspaper said the oil-rich former Soviet state was ready to step in, should the escalating Crimean crisis force the cancellation of the scheduled inaugural Russian Grand Prix later this year.
