It’s a wide-open field in Sunday’s 98th Indianapolis 500. So wide open, in fact, that it’s hard to see a clear-cut favorite in the field of 33 drivers that will celebrate at the end of the race in the most famous Victory Lane in all of racing.

It’s also a race loaded with storylines.

Tony Kanaan is the defending winner of the Indianapolis 500 and he starts way back in 16th place after struggling in qualifying with his Target/Chip Ganassi Racing Dallara/Chevrolet. But Kanaan’s confidence on race day will be high after he was the fastest driver in the final practice session known as Carb Day on Friday at the .

Nico Rosberg will keep his pole position after the stewards decided to take no further action against the German after his incident at Mirabeau.

The stewards decided that “no offence was committed by the driver of car No. 6,” and by way of explanation said that they had examined video and telemetry, and could find no evidence of any offence.

While the Mercedes team can breathe a sigh of a relief, there is no question that the affair has ramped up tension between Rosberg and , which could translate to an interesting start tomorrow.

Marcus Ericsson will have to start the Monaco Grand Prix from the pit lane after being penalized by the FIA stewards for a collision with Felipe Massa in Q1.

Massa let Ericsson past going into Mirabeau, but the Swede lost control and took both cars into the tire wall. Massa was not able to take part in Q2, despite having made it through.

The new General Manager of Ducati Corse this year, has already been able to enjoy a podium finish as well as a front row start. Following the French Grand Prix at Le Mans, the Italian spoke with about the latest developments at Borgo Panigale, the changes with the bike and his relationship with the riders.

It has not been long since you moved from Aprilia to Ducati. With this in mind, how have you settled into your new surroundings?
I am extremely happy with Ducati. I’ve found a group of people who are extremely valuable and the environment is very positive, even though we are facing some difficulties at the moment. We are a tight-knit group, working together in an incredible way in order to try and reduce the performance gap between ourselves and our competitors, Honda and Yamaha. It’s not easy, but we are trying so hard.

Nico Rosberg took pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix ahead of on Saturday after making a late error that left his Mercedes teammate visibly irate at missing out on a shot at qualifying in first place.

With Rosberg holding the best time, the Mercedes pair went out for one final qualifying lap with less than a minute remaining in the session, but the German lost control coming out of the Mirabeau turn, sliding down an escape road. After Rosberg backed out onto the circuit, a yellow flag came up — meaning the session was over and Hamilton could not improve on his time.
