Alonso honorary starter for 24 Hours of Le Mans; McNish Grand Marshal

Alan McNish and Fernando Alonso will be among the dignitaries that will be honored in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest announced Monday.

McNish, a three-time race winner and reigning FIA World Endurance champion, will serve as Grand Marshal for the 82nd running of the event, while two-time Formula One World Champion and Ferrari factory driver Alonso has been named the race starter.

Kimi Raikkonen endured a nightmare race in Monaco that saw the Ferrari driver lose a potential third place to a puncture he received after being hit by Max Chilton.

He later retired after an incident with Kevin Magnussen during his attempt to recover ground. The Finn received a reprimand from the FIA stewards for the latter.

Lauda not pleased with Hamilton/Rosberg feud

Niki Lauda has scolded Lewis Hamilton for not congratulating teammate Nico Rosberg after his second consecutive Monaco win on Sunday.

As their clash for the 2014 title exploded in dramatic style in the principality, the 2008 Formula 1 World Champion declared his friendship with Rosberg over.
