Sports car racing’s John Bishop, co-founder of the International Motor Sports Association, has died. He was 87.

Bishop died Thursday in San Rafael, California, of complications from a recent illness, according to a release from the sports car sanctioning organization.

Bishop co-founded IMSA in 1969 with wife Peggy and NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. after a surprise telephone “cold call” from France.

MONTREAL (AP) — Formula One leaders and had the fastest times in practice on Friday for the Canadian Grand Prix.

The two Mercedes drivers are leading the championship standings. They have won all six of the races so far this season.

Fernando Alonso may have topped opening practice on Friday, but the Spaniard is very aware that performance now may hurt the team in the long-run.

The two-time Champion says that should not compromise next season by getting too bogged down with improving this year’s car.

Sebastian Vettel has often been overshadowed by Daniel Ricciardo this year, but the German insists that he’s been happy to see his teammate do well.

Vettel admits that, like the Red Bull Racing team management, he’s been surprised by Ricciardo’s form.
