With new cars, new rules and a returning manufacturer, the battle for the overall win in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable in recent history. LMP1 juggernauts Audi, Toyota and Porsche go head-to-head, all with different technology and different strategies.

FOXSports.com continues its comprehensive week-long coverage with a look at the teams from the LMP1 class that will fight for overall glory in the world’s greatest endurance race (Sat., 8:30 a.m. ET live on FOX Sports 1)

Storylines:

***A set of sweeping new technical regulations, aimed at fuel efficiency, has turned the LMP1 into a completely new game. Fuel flow meters now control power output, while hybrid systems, up to four times more powerful than last year, are mandatory for all factory teams. It equates up to a 30 percent reduction in fuel consumption over previous years.

Despite struggling to attract entries in the FIA World Endurance Championship and a slight dwindling car count in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, the LMP2 grid for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans couldn’t be any stronger, with 17 entries set to take part with their cost-capped prototypes.

Having seen his early season podium form affected by arm pump problems at the last two rounds, Pedrosa would love nothing more than a first victory of 2014 to improve his championship standing. A victory for Honda this weekend would be the manufacture’s 100th win in MotoGP.

The affordable sports car has long been one of the most revered classes of automobiles for enthusiasts.

Triumph and MG got the ball rolling in the 1950s and early ’60s, then the Nissan 240Z exploded on the scene just as the decade of the ’70s was set to take off. The Mazda Miata was a stunning success when it was introduced in 1990, and Honda followed suit in ’99 with the wonderful S2000 roadster.
