Hollywood lost one of its truly great actors Saturday with the passing of James Garner at age 86.

Perhaps the best description of Garner came from the New York Times, where it was written, “He was most at home as an iconoclast, a flawed or unlikely hero.”

Indeed.

But Garner was also a serious car guy.

Sebastien Bourdais waited out the rain, then took care of a winless drought.

Bourdais dominated from the pole at Toronto in the first IndyCar Series race of a Sunday doubleheader, cruising to his first open wheel victory since 2007.

The race was shortened to 65 laps after rain wiped out Saturday’s race. Another 65-lap race was set for the afternoon at Exhibition Place.

So many companies claim to have developed the future of road car propulsion that those making genuine strides run the risk of being ignored. Luckily, German firm Quant is avoiding such a fate, as its innovative ‘flow-cell’-powered vehicle has just been approved for real-world testing by the German TÜV safety body.

The Quant e-Sportlimousine was first revealed at the Geneva Motor Show back in March, powered by what the company called ‘nanoFLOWCELL’ technology. In essence, flow-cells combine characteristics of a traditional battery, and fuel cells. Electrolyte fluid is circulated around two cells mounted side-by-side. Between these cells is a membrane that allows electrons to pass through. The electrical current generated from this flow of electrons can be used to power a vehicle—and that’s exactly how the e-Sportlimousine works.

“It’s an amazing feeling to win at home. It’s a very special day,” said Rosberg, who led throughout to become the first German to triumph at Hockenheim since Michael Schumacher won in 2006.

Hamilton, who crashed in qualifying and survived a number of scrapes throughout the race, could not pass Valtteri Bottas in the closing laps and the Finn took second to give Williams its 300th F1 podium finish.

Lewis Hamilton won’t be forced to start from the pitlane after the FIA accepted that his change of brake disc brand from Brembo to Carbon Industrie does not represent a change of car specification under parc ferme conditions.

Article 34.2 of the 2014 Sporting Regulations states: “It must be clear that any replacement part a team wishes to fit is similar in mass, inertia and function to the original. Any parts removed will be retained by the FIA.”
