The 24th Annual National showcased ultra-competitive racing action for Round 5 of the 2013 Pro Championship, sanctioned by . Reigning 450 Class champion captured his second overall victory of the season in the 450 Class. Blake Baggett returned to his winning ways from 2012 as the defending 250 Class champion secured his first overall victory of the season with a big win in Mechanicsville, Md. Saturday’s win marked back-to-back Budds Creek victories for both riders in their respective classes.

Yoshimura Suzuki’s laid down the fastest lap of the day in the 450 Class, where he came into Moto 1 with the first choice of gate pick. However, it was Toyota/JGR/Yamaha’s Justin Brayton and Smartop/MotoConcepts Racing’s Mike Alessi who went head-to-head for the Motorcycle Superstore Holeshot, which Alessi secured at the last second. From there, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s grabbed the early lead and immediately put a gap on the rest of the field.

Q: My first memory of Jason Leffler was at the new 16th St. Speedway on opening night. The Midwest USAC regulars were learning their way around the baseball diamond shaped track and going what appeared to be fast. Quietly, two immaculately prepared black midgets appeared on the track. The cars were from the Keith Kuntz stable. The drivers were a couple of kids from California; Jason Leffler and Jay Drake. After one slow lap, Jason and Jay stood on the button and made that track one large circle, slinging dirt everywhere in the process, and man were they fast. Life was good and I followed Jason ever since. Glad The Captain gave him a shot at Indy. Rest in Peace.

From 1982-2007 there were at least two races in Wisconsin: the traditional Milwaukee Mile and the 4-mile splendor of Road America. For most of that time both shows were a rousing success because of the passionate fans, although The Split in 1996 eventually sucked the life out of Milwaukee’s legendary oval and Elkhart Lake was dropped after unification in 2008.

But it would appear there’s a decent chance both could be on the 2014 schedule.

“I’ve reached out to IndyCar and had a meeting with Mark Miles back in April at Long Beach and we’d like to bring Indy cars back,” said George Bruggenthies, longtime president of Road America’s scenic, challenging road course.

This Saturday, Southern Maryland’s MX Park will host the world’s best riders for Round 5 of the 2013 Pro Championship, sanctioned by . Taking place in Mechanicsville, Md., just an hour outside of the nation’s capital, the 23rd Annual Budds Creek National will set the stage for two of the most highly contested championships in Lucas Oil Pro Motocross history. Current points leader and 2011 champion will go head-to-head with reigning champ in the 450 Class, while Ken Roczen and Eli Tomac will both attempt to become the second repeat winner in the 250 Class as Marvin Musquin looks to secure his third consecutive win at Budds Creek.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Villopoto captured his third overall victory of the season at High Point Raceway with a clean sweep in the 450 Class, giving the points leader a total of seven moto wins to date. Villopoto’s successful season has given him considerable momentum heading into Round 5 this weekend, where he looks to extend his points lead at Budds Creek.
