Q: Regarding the start of the Iowa race and Mark Miles saying they wanted it on ABC. I think the series is going to have to decide if it is going to be a racing series for the fans at the track or a TV show trying to get ratings. They can’t have both ways. Even NASCAR is losing its longtime fan base because the races, season, and mostly TV production are too long. Also Indy Car needs to stop with the “Festival of Speed” label on many of its events. Fan zones, play zones for the kids, and of course the famous Ferris Wheel will not keep bringing people back. It’s the on-track product that will, with the last two years being incredible. Before live TV, I attended dozens of races at Mid Ohio including the Can Am, F 5000, , and CART. Every weekend was a thrill. The on-track product was great and we saw lots of action including support races before the main event. For TV to stick it to the live fans at the track is wrong. This past weekend I watched the Iowa race on DVR after I knew the winner. I still enjoyed the race and didn’t feel like it lost anything because I didn’t see it live. Maybe its time for Indy Car to tape its races (except the Indy 500) and present the best possible race to the loyal fans in the stands.

The 2013 Pro Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, reaches its halfway point this Saturday, July 6, with Round 7 of the 12-race series. Held at the famed MX track in Buchanan, Mich., the Red Bull National serves as the centerpiece of the Lucas Oil Pro Championship, drawing spectators from all over the Midwest to witness the most prestigious racers in the country do battle in the rolling hills of Southwestern Michigan.

Heading into the second half of the season, 2011 450 Class Champion and defending 450 Class Champion share the first six overall victories with three wins, respectively. Although each rider holds three overall wins, it’s Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Villopoto who tops the championship standings by a 12-point margin over Red Bull KTM’s Dungey. En route to his current points lead in the 450 Class, Villopoto has captured nine moto wins-the most of the season-as well as the distinction of being the only rider to win a moto at every race. While Dungey only has three moto wins under his belt, the Minnesota native is the only rider to finish atop the podium at each round of the championship thus far. Dungey looks to defend his two-race overall win streak against Villopoto this Saturday at RedBud

Miller’s Mid-Season Report Card

Seven different winners in 10 races, three for the first time, and none of them are Will Power, Dario Franchitti or Scott Dixon. To quote the late, great Slim Pickens in Blazing Saddles: “What in the wide, wide world of sports is a goin’ on?”

Crazy, unpredictable things are what’s going on in the first half of the 2013 IZOD IndyCar series as the competition is fierce and the outcomes are impossible to gauge.

Silverstone Winner Rosberg Escapes With Reprimand

Nico Rosberg logged his second win of 2013 after a superb performance at Silverstone – but it was only confirmed after he escaped with a reprimand for not making a “significant reduction in speed” under double waved yellow flags.

Frustrated rivals pointed out that the German logged a purple sector – the fastest of the race to date – when the flags were shown.

Nevertheless it was a canny drive by Rosberg, who ran third early on and benefited from Lewis Hamilton’s tire failure and Sebastian Vettel’s gearbox breakage.
