Villopoto Seeks First Home Motocross Win

For the first time since the opening round of the season, the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, will make its return to the Pacific Time Zone on Saturday, July 20, with its annual visit to Washougal, Wash., for the Peterson CAT Washougal National for Round 8 of the 12-race series.

Washington native Ryan Villopoto looks to extend his points lead in the 450 Class by capturing his first ever Lucas Oil Pro Motocross win in front of his hometown crowd on Saturday. In four entries to the Washougal event, Villopoto is currently winless at his home track. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider currently holds 11 moto victories-the most of the season-while leading the way with four overall wins through the first seven rounds of the championship.

Symonds Joins Williams As Coughlan Departs

Pat Symonds has left Marussia to take up a new role as chief technical officer of Williams, commencing on August 19.

Meanwhile Williams has also confirmed that technical director Mike Coughlan has parted company with the team.

Symonds had spent two and half years with Marussia, in effect rehabilitating his reputation after the Crashgate scandal at Renault left him on the sidelines.

Marussia will use a Ferrari powertrain and gearbox package from 2014, the Anglo-Russian team confirmed today.

Ferrari has been looking for a new customer since it became clear some time ago that Toro Rosso was moving to Renault. Ferrari protégé Jules Bianchi’s presence at Marussia clearly hasn’t hurt the team’s prospects of negotiating a deal.
