The German, who will make his series debut through a partnership between RW Motorsports and Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing at Sonoma Raceway, completed 10 laps on the 12-turn, 2.385-mile road course Aug. 13 as the team overcame issues with the brakes and radio harness.

“Got my first laps in the Indy car today,” Luhr wrote on Twitter following the test. “Great (experience) we have some work to do but love it so far.”

The 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, will make its inaugural visit to the greater Salt Lake City area this Saturday, August 17, for the debut of the Built Ford Tough Utah National from Tooele’s state-of-the-art Miller Motorsports Park. The new event will serve as the penultimate round of the 12-race series, which features the most talented field of competitors in over four decades of competition.

The Built Ford Tough Utah National will be the first professional outdoor motocross event to be held in the state of Utah since 1973. The event will take place on a brand-new motocross track constructed in the northeast corner of MMP’s East Road Course. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto looks to continue his success this season by becoming the first 450 Class winner at the new venue, which could result in the points leader clinching his second 450 Class Championship with one round to go in the series.

Popow And Dalziel Hold Slim Point Lead Entering Final Stretch

Alex Popow and Ryan Dalziel, drivers of the No. 2 Soloson BMW/Riley, saw their lead in the Daytona Prototype championship trimmed to four points in last weekend’s VISITFLORIDA.com 250 at Road America. Now, it’s a first-time visit to Kansas Speedway for Saturday evening’s SFP Grand Prix, and the Starworks Motorsport drivers are trying to hold on to the lead with only three races remaining in the 2013 Rolex Sports Car Series season.

Popow and Dalziel, who won the Brickyard Grand Prix, lead GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing drivers Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty for the championship lead, 246-242, while three other sets of drivers are within 14 points of the top spot.

Dalziel and Popow entered Road America leading by 10 points, but became the third points leader to experience misfortune when their BMW/Riley suffered mechanical problems exiting pit road. Dalziel shut off the car and pulled over rather than risk further damage, resulting in a 14th-place finish.

All was not lost for the team, though, as first-year DP driver Brendon Hartley and Scott Mayer took a popular victory in the No. 8 Starworks BMW/Riley.

Both Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates and Wayne Taylor Racing won two races and led the standings earlier this year, before back-to-back problems sent both teams tumbling out of the lead.
Ganassi’s Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas won two races earlier this season at Daytona and Road Atlanta in quest of a fourth consecutive title, but incidents at Detroit and Mid-Ohio dropped them in the standings. They finished second at Indianapolis and fourth at Road America in the No. 01 Telcel/TELMEX BMW/Riley and are now sixth in the standings, 14 behind the leaders.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: The Red Bull Indianapolis GP will air LIVE on FOX Sports 1 on Sunday, August 18 in a four-hour programming block that starts at 11:00am ET.

Repsol Honda

After a three week break, the MotoGP World Championship restarts this weekend at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix.

Repsol Honda riders, Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa are currently first and second respectively in the Championship standings and arrive in America refreshed and ready to resume the fight. For Dani in particular, this Summer break has been gratefully received. Dani suffered a big crash in Germany in mid-July and the doctors would not allow him to race. However, he rode to a courageous 5th place in the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix in Laguna Seca just before the break. Having had three weeks to rest and recuperate, Dani is now almost back to 100% and will be hoping to return to the podium at a circuit where he’s won twice in MotoGP class (2012 and 2010).

Teammate Marc, inspired after his back-to-back GP wins in Germany and Laguna Seca, will be looking for another fine performance in Indianapolis where he has been victorious the past two seasons in the Moto2 class.
