Repsol Honda Team’s Dani Pedrosa, winner in dramatic fashion last year, topped the Warm-Up with his best lap time of 1’56.515, which was just three thousandths of a second faster than championship-leading teammate Marc Marquez. The top five was rounded out by Yamaha Factory Racing duo Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, plus pole-sitter Cal Crutchlow of Monster Yamaha Tech3.

The talk of the morning was the ever-increasing chance that rain will affect this afternoon’s 22-lap race. Dark skies surrounded the circuit, encouraging riders to practice bike changes in the pit lane in case they are faced with a Flag-to-Flag situation during the Grand Prix; incidentally, the likes of Crutchlow and Marquez are yet to experience such a scenario since making their MotoGP™ debuts.

Although Dario Franchitti hasn’t won an IndyCar race since last year’s Indianapolis 500, he’s in prime position to snap that unpleasant streak when he starts on the pole Sunday in an excellent Honda at Sonoma Raceway.

But if he can help Scott Dixon by stepping off the gas a bit, Franchitti would be happy to follow team orders.

Franchitti won’t put his personal success ahead of Target Chip Ganassi Racing’s fortunes. That means Dixon will get every chance to gain ground on IndyCar points leader Helio Castroneves (453 points), who leads second-place Dixon (422) with five races to go.

Valentino Rossi believes he can win his first race in four years at Brno despite a troubled qualifying session that will see him start the Czech Grand Prix from the third row.

Rossi and his factory Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo were overshadowed by British rider Cal Crutchlow who took pole position on the satellite team Tech3 Yamaha.

But Rossi says he is unfazed by braking issues that slowed him to seventh on the grid and he is openly confident that his reputation as a ruthless racer will work in his favour at Brno.

Rossi last won the MotoGP race at Brno in 2009 on a Yamaha.

“This race is open for me because the Brno has a lot of places to overtake and I feel good with my race pace,” said Rossi who is chasing his second win of the season following his DutchTT victory.
