Ryan Dungey, Justin Barcia and Eli Tomac will fly the banner for Team USA at this year’s Motocross des Nations, which will be held in Teutschenthal, Germany on September 28-29.

Dungey, who returns to MXoN for a fifth straight year, will compete in the MX1 class (450cc). Newly crowned 250 motocross champion Tomac will run MX2 (250cc) with Barcia racing Open.

Long-time team manager and multi-time motocross world champion Roger DeCoster will return to manage the all-star lineup in its quest to reclaim the coveted MXoN winner’s trophy.

“The strength for the Americans is that everybody always works together as a team,” DeCoster said. “Often, that is not the case for other teams. Another of our strengths is our fans. The American fans are very much behind this race.”

Ducati management has moved quickly to diffuse tensions between factory riders Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso following their dramatic last corner collision in the Indianapolis Grand Prix.

In advance of this Sunday’s Czech Grand Prix at Brno the Desmosedici teammates have been warned that Ducati does not want to see a repeat of the friendly fire.

The bump and grind on the final lap of last Sunday’s race at the Brickyard allowed Yamaha rider Bradley Smith to sneak through into eighth place, dropping Hayden to ninth and Dovizioso 10th.

A similar incident occurred in the Dutch TT at Assen in June.

Fernando Alonso was in a positive mood after free practice in Friday, despite ending the day a modest seventh.

However, headline times don’t always tell the full story, and the Spaniard insisted that Ferrari made progress.

“This was a good day, even if in the morning we, and in fact everyone, lost time because of the rain, and so in the afternoon we found ourselves facing double the workload,” he said. “Before drawing any conclusions, we need to wait for the analysis of the data acquired this afternoon from both cars. Felipe (Massa, teammate) and I tried different aero configurations, with more and less downforce, which will be the real key to this race, along with the weather.

“In terms of today’s times, we have got closer to the favorites, but I’m not sure which weather forecast I would prefer. It’s true that in the rain, the cards on the table can be shuffled up, but in the wet there are as many chances to benefit as there are to lose.”
