2014 FIA World Endurance Championship Schedule Released

The provisional schedule for the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship was announced Friday at Circuit of The Americas.

Featuring the same eight rounds from this year’s globe-trotting sports car series, the season will again kick off at Silverstone in April followed by rounds at Spa, Le Mans, Sao Paulo, Circuit of The Americas, Fuji, Shanghai and Bahrain, which will end two weeks earlier than 2013.

With the rest of the MotoGP teams having departed Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on Monday evening, Suzuki stayed on to complete a further two days of running at the Adriatic venue.

At the end of Wednesday, Suzuki reported a ‘positive’ conclusion to proceedings, having evaluated several new factory components including a new chassis, new engine specifications and revised electronics plus a newly-styled cowling. Randy de Puniet and Nobuatsu Aoki completed more than 200 laps of Misano, collecting valuable data ahead of their next test at Mugello next week.

Lucas Luhr captured his 22nd pole in P1 qualifying, running a lap of two minutes, 7.851 seconds (95.736 mph) in the No. 6 Pickett Racing Muscle Milk HPD ARX-03c. He and co-driver Klaus Graf – who have already wrapped up the P1 championship – will be seeking their sixth consecutive victory in Saturday’s two-hour, 45-minute race.

Luhr was joined by Marino Franchitti and Renger van der Zande in winning pole positions for the prototype classes for the race, Round 7 of 10 on the 2013 schedule.

Fernando Alonso has done his best to put an end to speculation about a possible return to McLaren.

The Singapore paddock was buzzing today with suggestions that Alonso could go back to the team after Martin Whitmarsh admitted that he would be happy to have the Spaniard back, despite the acrimonious end to his previous stint with the team in 2007.

After months of speculation, IMSA released the calendar for the 2014 Tudor United SportsCar Championship Friday.

Featuring a 12-race schedule, the unified North American series kicks off at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January, with trips to Sebring, Long Beach, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Detroit, Watkins Glen, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Road America, Virginia International Raceway, Circuit of the Americas and Road Atlanta for the season-ending 1,000-mile/10-hour Petit Le Mans.
