Rick Hendrick is a familiar face at Barrett-Jackson auctions and with good reason: Not only is Hendrick the founder and owner of the Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR Sprint Cup team, but he’s also the nation’s largest Chevrolet dealer.

And in recent years, Hendrick has become an avid collector, too, specializing in Corvettes and General Motors muscle cars. Recall that earlier this year at two other Barrett-Jackson auctions, Hendrick paid $1 million each for the right to purchase the first production 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C7 coupe and convertible.

LAND OF LINCOLN — In something of a late auction surprise, the top non-charity sale of the auction ends up being not a muscle car, a rare Corvette or a European sports car, but a 1931 Lincoln Model K (Lot 759), exactly the kind of car Russ Jackson and Tom Barrett used to specialize in when they started Barrett-Jackson more than four decades ago. This behemoth is elegant and luxurious, a fantastic example of Depression Era opulence, at a time when such cars were a tough sell. It brings $352,000, including the 10 percent buyer’s premium.

RED HOT — An ultra-rare car, and arguably the high-water mark in a production Ford is the 2005 Ford GT (Lot 748), modeled after the Le Mans-winning Ford GTs of the mid-1960s. Even though this one brings a total of $275,000, our FOXSports television team is convinced this is still a very good buy. And with only 58 original miles, it is in absolutely perfect conditions. This is the top selling non-charity car of the entire auction.

Following a disappointing performance one year ago in Belgium, Team USA began its quest for redemption today at the 67th running of the Motocross of Nations. The Talkessel facility in Teutschenthal, Germany, will host a landmark 41 countries this weekend at the world’s most important motocross event and Team USA heads into action with a chip on its shoulder.

Following a random ballot selection to determine starting positions, all 123 riders took to the track on Saturday afternoon for qualifying to see who will race for the coveted Chamberlain Cup on Sunday and what position on the gate they will do it from.
