After another thrilling race in Catalunya and subsequent tests at the same circuit, plus a test visit to Aragon, Movistar Yamaha arrive in Assen primed for action.

The last round saw fight a hard battle for a well-deserved second place and Jorge Lorenzo come home fourth. Both riders are keen on another chance to show their fighting spirit at the TT Assen this Saturday.

Rumors to the effect that Renault could be planning to sell its F1 engine department in Viry come at exactly the same time as suggestions that Red Bull wants to do its own thing on the power unit front – and it’s not hard to tie the two together.

Logic suggests that rather than attempt to start its own engine operation from scratch, Red Bull could take over Viry and introduce its own systems and key personnel in an attempt to improve the situation. It’s worth noting that Dr Helmut Marko has been spending a lot of time there recently.

Bernie Ecclestone has issued a harsh warning to struggling teams.

Amid all the noise about the urgent need to cut costs, the sport’s chief executive insists he has no fear that some teams are facing financial collapse.

“I do not fear it,” he told Kleine Zeitung newspaper.” I would even be happy about it.

Lotus could be set to switch from to power in 2015, well-placed sources have confirmed.

Inevitably there has been some tension between Renault and Lotus this season. Lotus has been late with payments to the French manufacturer over the past couple of seasons, while the reliability and performance problems associated with the power unit have proved frustrating to the team.
