The TT Circuit Assen is the only track that has staged a grand prix race every year since the start of the world championship in 1949.

Motorcycle racing started on the roads round Assen in 1925 on a 27.53 km (17.11 miles) circuit. The circuit was shortened to 16.54 km (10.275 miles) between 1926 –1954 although there was no racing between 1939 – 1946 because of the Second World War. It was halved in length in 1955 to 7.704 km (4.787 miles) and further shortened in 2002.

Jenson Button has played down increasing speculation about his future in Formula 1.

The 2009 World Champion is out of contract at the end of 2014, but McLaren boss Eric Boullier said recently he thinks a new deal for the 34-year-old is likely.

That may not be right. Britain’s Times and Daily Mail newspapers are reporting the real likelihood that next weekend’s Silverstone race could be Button’s last British Grand Prix with the team.

“Well, give me more power!” the Finn told his engineer.

Raikkonen has notably struggled since returning to the Italian team in 2014, but so too has Ferrari with its newly V6-powered F14-T.
