MotoGP: Nicky Hayden On Title Showdown In Valencia GP

America’s most recent MotoGP World Champion, Nicky Hayden, won the title in 2006 in a tension-filled final race showdown with Valentino Rossi.

Now it is the turn of Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez, both Spaniards and shooting for the crown on home turf in Sunday’s Valencia Grand Prix.

Since the World Championship series was introduced in 1949, there have been 15 occasions on which the premier-class title has been decided at the final race of the year. Each was special in its own way.

1950 – Going to the final race of the year at his home race at Monza, Umberto Masetti – riding a four-cylinder Gilera – had a marginal lead in the championship over Geoff Duke, riding a single-cylinder Norton. Duke won the race, but Masetti did just enough by finishing second to clinch the title by a single point.

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone on Wednesday disputed paying a bribe to ensure he stayed in control of the glamorous motorsport series, and then fabricating the reason to pay a banker.

Under cross-examination at the High Court in London, Ecclestone said he was blackmailed by the banker tasked with selling a significant stake in F1, and paid him off to avoid being reported to the authorities over his tax affairs.

SportsCars: Team Falken Continue Into 2014 With Porsche 911 RSR

Team Falken Tire will continue its sports car racing program program next year with Porsche, it was confirmed Wednesday. The team is set to campaign the first customer version of the new 911 RSR in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

The Derrick Walker-led organization, which won last month’s ALMS series-ending Petit Le Mans, has retained its core driver lineup, with Bryan Sellers and Porsche factory driver Wolf Henzler set to handle driving duties of the 991-based Porsche in the GT Le Mans category.
