Mercedes has emerged as the early 2014 favorite.

Amid world champions Red Bull and Renault’s crisis, it is obvious that works engine-chassis makers Mercedes and have their noses in front on the basis of the opening test at Jerez.

F1: Felipe Massa Believes ‘Clever’ Alonso Will Beat Raikkonen

Felipe Massa has tipped his former teammate to dominate at the great Italian team in 2014.

Maranello marque Ferrari replaced the long-serving Brazilian with Finn Raikkonen, its 2007 world champion, over the winter, with Massa having to move to the once-great British team Williams.

Cars: Superbowl Ads Review — More Choices For Automotive Excitement

As always, this year’s Super Bowl was supported by plenty of multimillion dollar car advertisements, with some raising more questions than answers. For those of you still wondering what exactly you were being sold, here’s a look at some of the more interesting autos showcased during the game.

The commercial for the Maserati Ghibli was called “Strike,” but it could’ve easily been named “First Strike.” While the $66,900 345 hp sports sedan is the Italian automaker’s first relatively mass-market car — and aimed at the likes of the BMW 5-Series, -Benz E-Class, and other established mid-size luxury depicted in absentia in the ad as big, slow, lazy giants about to be taken out by their nimble new adversary — it will soon be followed by its first SUV, which is expected to be its best-seller, despite the fact that it will surely being bigger and less nimble than the Ghibli.

F1: Former Mercedes Boss, Ross Brawn Announces Retirement

Despite earlier saying he would consider his F1 future during a sabbatical, Ross Brawn now insists he has definitively retired.

Having stepped down as Mercedes’ team boss, the famous 59-year-old has been heavily linked with McLaren and the great British team’s 2015 engine supplier Honda.

MotoGP: Marco Simoncelli To Be Inducted Into Hall Of Fame

Marco Simoncelli is to be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a MotoGP Legend. The Italian was a front-runner in the premier class before tragically losing his life to an accident in 2011.

In becoming a MotoGP Legend, Simoncelli’s name will be the 21st on the list as he joins a list of 20 other greats. To the shock of race fans around the world, the Gresini rider lost his life on Sunday 23 October 2011 in a crash on the second lap of the Malaysian Grand Prix, just one week after finishing in second place at Phillip Island.
