Round nine of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship in Indianapolis, Ind. proved to be the most difficult race of the season, and when the dust settled, it was Ryan Dungey celebrating his first win of 2014.

The Red Bull KTM star passed Mike Alessi for the lead on Lap 5 and was unchallenged for the remainder of the 20-lap main event. The victory moves him into second in the title fight, 23 points behind Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto.

Venezuelan sports car driver Emilio Di Guida died suddenly near his home in Doral, Fla. on Saturday. He was 50.

Di Guida was a regular competitor in the American Le Mans Series and Rolex Sports Car Series over the last three years, highlighted by two GTC class victories in 2012 in a TRG Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.

RECAP: DUNGEY WINS ATTRITION-FILLED 450SX RACE IN INDY

17-year-old Adam Cianciarulo raced to his second career Eastern Regional 250SX Class victory Saturday night in front of 59,919 fans at Lucas Oil Stadium.

It was an impressive performance from start to finish for Cianciarulo, with the rookie grabbing fastest-qualifier honors, winning his heat race and eventually taking the main event victory.

Alex Mariñelarena has been injured during a Tech3 Racing Team test at the Paul Ricard Circuit in the south of France.

On Thursday afternoon Mariñelarena suffered a heavy fall which knocked him out of consciousness. While the medical staff of the circuit were administering first aid at the scene, the 21 year-old Spanish rider was awake and able speak to the doctors.

Riders have commented that this is the most difficult track of the season. The dirt has deteriorated quite a bit, resulting in a lot of ruts, some extremely deep. The whoops have become a focal point because how much they’ve rutted up and many riders have fell while trying to navigate them. Attrition has been higher than usual, but fortunately everyone has been able to get back on the bike and continue.

Ryan Dungey made the first statement in the premier class by topping the charts in the first session but James Stewart edged him out in the final session with a 54.047 compared to Dungey’s 54.234.
