We’ve almost been waiting for the ball to drop that resulted in the kind of dominant ride that has not only made Ryan Villopoto a back-to-back-to-back champion, but also the most dominant rider on the planet. In Daytona, RV was in top form. It was his best ride of the season and the most convincing performance of the year thus far. All this doesn’t bode well for the likes of Ryan Dungey and Ken Roczen, who now face a deficit of over one race in the standings. Villopoto is starting to find that groove that separates him from everyone else and he remains the frontrunner in the Power Rankings this week.

Each week, The Power Rankings will recognize the movers and shakers in Monster Energy Supercross.

Fears over the complex nature of working on the 2014 cars were realized in Australia as both Caterham and Lotus saw their Friday running badly affected.

At Caterham, both Kamui Kobayashi and Marcus Ericsson ran only one installation lap in first practice. Because of the time required to fix the problem, the Japanese driver didn’t run at all in second practice. Meanwhile rookie Ericsson did one lap in each of the sessions and may not be allowed to start if he has more problems on Saturday and doesn’t set a proper qualifying time.

The general race pace in next weekend’s season-opening Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar is set to exceed that of 2013, according to MotoGP tire supplier Bridgestone following the last preseason test at the Losail International Circuit.

At the final gathering of the preseason, it was NGM Forward Racing’s Aleix Espargaro who topped the timesheets to conclude an impressive testing period on the Forward Yamaha. However, Bridgestone was pleased with the pace overall.
