Alvaro Bautista secured a spot on the front row for the season opening race at Qatar after a solid performance in qualifying at Losail.

The GO&FUN Honda Gresini rider posted a 1:54.564 in the closing minutes of Q2, just being pushed from pole by World Champion Marc Marquez.

McLaren has chimed in on the fuel flow controversy.

After Daniel Ricciardo was disqualified in Melbourne, Red Bull argued that it went its own way with the new fuel consumption rules because FIA’s mandatory sensors were not accurate enough.

However, engine supplier Renault’s rivals Mercedes and Ferrari backed the FIA in the wake of the ruling, while the sensor supplier Gill insisted it has the full support of Formula 1′s governing body.

World Champion Marc Marquez will start from pole position as he begins the defense of his MotoGP title at the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix.

Marquez and a squadron of factory bikes busted open the form guide in qualifying with hot favorite Aleix Espargaro slumping to ninth on the third row for the 22-lap race.

Brazilian officials have announced the return of IndyCar to the country next season, saying Friday that a race will be held in the capital of Brasilia.

The federal district government released a statement saying the Autodromo Nelson Piquet will host the race from 2015-19. The deal with local race promoters was signed at an event in Sao Paulo.

MotoGP icon Valentino Rossi says that Yamaha and Honda have paid a heavy price for their search for excellence and dominance of MotoGP.

And he is deeply worried for Sunday’s opening race of the 2014 season, claiming his Yamaha M1 is “at the limit” and beyond suffocated by new technical rules.
