Will Power and Penske Racing are back in a familiar position at Barber Motorsports Park: Starting in the pole position at a track where they dominated until last year.

Power, a two-time winner, came out on top in a Fast Six qualifying Saturday that featured five drivers from IndyCar powerhouse teams Penske, Andretti Autosport and Ganassi Racing.

Simona de Silvestro moved a step closer to achieving her dream of competing in Formula One next year after a first day of in-car testing with Sauber.

The Swiss driver completed 112 laps in a two-year-old Sauber C31 at Ferrari’s Fiorano Circuit in northern Italy.

Repsol Honda’s MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez continued his dominance of the Gran Premio Red Bull de la Republica Argentina weekend to take pole, ahead of Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa.

Marquez appears to be enjoying every moment of the first World Championship visit to the new Termas de Rio Hondo track and he set a superb 1:37.683s late in the 15-minute showdown to maintain his perfect 2014 pole record.

Monster Energy Supercross’ anticipated return to New York for the first time in 23 years has the makings of a historic evening with Ryan Villopoto on the verge of securing a fourth consecutive title. Villopoto has been the rider to beat throughout the 2014 season and thanks to back-to-back wins, he needs just an 18th-place finish to continue his dominance of the sport. As a result, Villopoto tops the Power Rankings as he looks to do the same thing his hometown Seattle Seahawks did at the Super Bowl in February, win a world championship inside MetLife Stadium.

Helio Castroneves expects some fallout from the bad tempers left over from the last IndyCar race.

James Hinchcliffe, however, thinks most drivers have calmed down heading into Sunday’s Indy Grand Prix of Alabama with the possible exception being Simon Pagenaud.

The Long Beach flareups included Pagenaud refusing to accept an apology after getting spun from behind by Will Power. Ryan Hunter-Reay’s attempt to pass Josef Newgarden on a tight turn led to a collision that collected Hinchcliffe and several other drivers.
