MotoGP: Lorenzo, Marquez and Pedrosa to celebrate milestones in Jerez

Jorge Lorenzo will celebrate his 27th birthday this Sunday behind the handlebars of his MotoGP Movistar Yamaha… in his 200th Grand Prix race.

Meanwhile, points leader Marc Marquez will be competing in his 100th Grand Prix race, while Dani Pedrosa will be attempting to match eight-time 500 World Champion Giacomo Agostini for third on the all-time podiums list… all while in front of their home crowd.

There is an air of invincibility surrounding Spain’s magic man of motorcycling, Marc Marquez.

It makes sense, according to 1993 500cc world champion Kevin Schwantz, who tips Marquez to become the most successful rider in MotoGP history.

My wife and I awoke that morning in a high-rise hotel in Waikiki, having moved to Hawaii just the night before. When my wife turned on the early sports report on TV, the first thing we saw was a somber anchorman on the set who said something to the effect of, “We begin today in Imola, Italy…”

There’s been a significant shakeup in the entry list for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, with race organizers, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest confirming Monday the withdrawal of five cars for the twice-around-the-clock French endurance classic.
