Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time in final practice for the Korean Grand Prix, indicating he will yet again be the man to beat in qualifying later Saturday.

Vettel had trailed in Friday’s sessions, but turned the table on Saturday with a lap of 1 minute, 37.881 seconds at the Yeongam circuit, a tenth of a second faster than teammate .

After the , sole tire supplier Pirelli changed the construction of the tires in order to avoid future delaminating issues. The new construction was similar to 2012’s Kevlar designed belt but incorporated 2013’s tread — a hybrid of sorts. The Kevlar-belted tires ran 10 degrees centigrade lower than the initial 2013 steel-belted tires.

No Regrets On Mercedes Strategy, Says Wolff

Mercedes F1 boss admits that the team could have run a different strategy in Singapore – but says that he has no regrets.

Both and Lewis Hamilton stayed out under the safety car and made a late pit stop under green flag conditions, giving them fresh tires and pace at the end of the race. They finished fourth and fifth, behind two cars that did stay out.

Fernando Alonso managed to turn seventh on the grid into second at the checkered flag after a vintage performance by the Spaniard in Singapore.

He jumped up to third at the start and then gambled by pitting under a safety car on lap 25 while and up ahead chose to stay out, as did and . He dropped to fifth but managed to keep his tires in good shape and get to the flag. When the others pitted only Vettel was able to stay ahead, leaving Alonso in second.
