Teammates Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa are riding high out of Qatar having finished with Marquez in first and Pedrosa in third. The duo scored a 1-2 finish for the team at COTA in 2013, while some of the other riders weren’t as fortunate.
Marc Marquez silenced critics at Qatar three weeks ago, fighting through his pre-season injury to emerge from the winter in the same place he had left MotoGP last year: on top. The Spaniard has fond memories of the Austin circuit, having picked off his first MotoGP victory here last season.
“This track is one of my favorite tracks,” says Marquez. “I had a good race here last year where I have good memories of taking my first win in the MotoGP class. We’ll have to wait and see the situation with the new rules for this year, but anyway we will be focused on our work.
“Thankfully the majority of hard turns are left handers at this track which is easier on my leg as I’m still not 100 percent fit.”
Neither of Marquez’s wins at Qatar three weeks ago or in Austin last year came easy, however. He had to fend off nine-time champion Valentino Rossi at Qatar and had to slip on by his teammate Pedrosa for the win at Austin last year.
Fortunately for American spectators, overtaking opportunities is something that Austin offers plenty of … if the rider’s brave enough.
