‘Marquez Mania’ hit the Brickyard on Friday as Repsol Honda’s only furthered the argument that he’s already the class of the field with another breathtaking performance.

Just 20 years of age, the Spanish class rookie swept both Friday free practices to kick off the Red Bull GP weekend in style.

Marquez’s rivals hoped to return from the summer break ready to meet his growing challenge. However, no one could match the Friday pace of the sport’s newest sensation, who opens the season’s second half leading the points and carrying consecutive victories into Indy.

World Championship leader picked right up where he left off prior to the season’s summer break — on top of the world.

The 20-year-old rookie comes into the Red Bull GP with the points lead and riding two consecutive race wins. The Repsol Honda ace earned those victories while preseason title favorites and were ruled out and later hindered by broken collarbones, so this weekend’s meeting after a month-long break should be a bit more telling in terms of exactly where everyone stands as the season enters its second half.

While one sessions does not make a weekend, any thoughts that Marquez would back down now were quickly swatted away by the gifted youngster who boasts a full 0.3-second advantage in FP1, logging a fast time of 1:40.781.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: The Red Bull GP will air LIVE on FOX Sports 1 on Sunday, August 18 in a four-hour programming block that starts at 11:00am ET.

The Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix got underway today as a star-studded press conference saw proceedings kick-off at the infamous Brickyard. Repsol Honda Team’s championship leading rookie was joined by teammate , Factory Racing duo and Valentino Rossi, Monster Tech 3’s , LCR Honda ’s Stefan Bradl, as well as Ignite Pramac Racing’s , who makes his long-awaited return from injury.

Crutchlow, whose switch to the Ducati Team for 2014 was announced during the summer break, was the center of attention for the gathered press. He commented: “After Laguna we decided that we were going to stay in America and take a break here, but it wasn’t too much of a break. We had a busy first week and then we obviously released that I’ll be riding for Ducati next year. Really pleased and it was nice to get that done, we can settle for the rest of the year now and see how that goes. Yes there are pros and cons for everything. The most difficult thing was making the phone call to Herve. It was quite an emotional phone call. It was a difficult decision to make but I am pleased to secure my future.”
