MotoGP: Fan favorite Rossi signs contract extension

Nine-time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi will continue to race for the factory Yamaha team through 2015 and 2016.

The announcement, made Wednesday morning, comes as little surprise given the 35-year-old Italian’s pace this season. Rossi is currently tied for second in the MotoGP standings with Dani Pedrosa.

MotoGP: Rossi remains upbeat despite tire choice regret

Valentino Rossi looked set to gamble on slick tires as the rest of the grid opted for rain tires during Saturday’s Iveco Daily TT Assen, but decided at the last moment to switch bikes. This forced Rossi to start from pit lane, although he quickly made his way through many of the trailing bikes.

Riders were forced to switch bikes again as the track began to dry, Rossi making his second trip to the pits. From here, Rossi charged through the remaining field, eventually finishing in fifth.

In a brutally honest self-appraisal, double-world champion Jorge Lorenzo admitted to being “scared” and haunted by a fear of crashing in Saturday’s Dutch TT.

In a chaotic race in wet-dry conditions that described as “very, very dangerous,” Lorenzo had flashbacks to his hugely painful at one year ago.
