, a Moto2 title favorite for the upcoming season, set the pace for the first time as a Marc VDS Racing Team rider when testing continued in Valencia on Wednesday.

This marked the second of three days of track action this week, with significantly improved weather conditions as a clear blue sky was accompanied by a light breeze.

One of the tasks during last week’s MotoGP test in Malaysia was to sample the new tires supplied by Bridgestone ahead of the 2014 season. Antonio Jimenez, crew chief to GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista, explains the challenge.

Bautista may have ended proceedings 11th on the timesheet, but rapid lap times were not everything as numerous experiments went on behind the scenes.

MotoGP: Ducati Still Pondering Switch To ‘Open’ Spec Bikes

One of the significant topics of discussion during MotoGP testing last week was whether or not Ducati will be switching all of its premier class bikes to Open specification for the upcoming 2014 campaign.

The label ‘Open’ is new this year and is given to those bikes running the spec ECU software (as provided by Dorna Sports and Magneti Marelli) as well as the ECU hardware, which from this season onwards is compulsory for all bikes in the field.

MotoGP: HRC Boss Says RCV1000R Riders ‘Need More Time’

Those riding the Honda RCV1000R need more time to get to grips with the new machine. That is the opinion of Shuhei Nakamoto, HRC executive vice president, who shared his opinion on the situation at the end of last week’s Sepang test.

There are four Honda RCV1000R bikes (originally dubbed the ‘Production Racer’) in the field this season. Two are run by , with and Hiroshi Aoyama at the helm, whereas others are piloted by GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Scott Redding and Cardion AB Motoracing’s Karel Abraham.

Pol Espargaro was delighted to have achieved his main aim of the week at the Sepang Official Test: to avoid crashing. At the same time, the new Monster rider admits that there is still a long way to go.

Espargaro joins Bradley Smith at Tech3 for 2014, stepping up to Herve Poncharal’s team in the premier class as the reigning World Champion.
