“More than the numbers or the consecutive victories, my objective is to win the World Championship at the end of the season,” Marc Marquez declared on Wednesday during a promotional event in Munich.

During the presentation, Marquez – who on Sunday had won for the seventh time in as many Grand Prix this season – acknowledged that he is setting records in 2014, but again made it clear that this is not his primary goal.

“More than the numbers or the consecutive victories, my objective is to win the World Championship at the end of the season,” claimed the 21-year-old Team rider. “I just do my best to win every race. If along the way I also pick up records, then I’m happy, but my goal is to win the championship at the end of the season. In every Grand Prix, we have many factors to consider. It is almost impossible to win every one of them, but I am calm and have confidence in myself. Last Saturday, for example, I couldn’t get on pole so I just focused on the race.”

At the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Marquez engaged in an intense battle with Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and his teammate Dani Pedrosa and has since thanked all three of them for the fight.

“Jorge has always shared some very nice words about our battles,” Marquez adds. “For me, he set an example when he first came to MotoGP and started winning. We now look to Assen, which is one of my favorite tracks, but it will not be easy. I never forget that the best riders in the world are on this grid, all having won many world titles.”

Having scored the maximum possible 175 points from the opening seven races of the year, Marquez now leads Valentino Rossi by 58 points. There are a total maximum of 275 points still up for grabs over the remaining 11 events of the campaign.
