The contest at the Termas de Rio Hondo track saw Stefan Bradl record another solid top-five result, despite the German taking a heavy bash when he crashed on Saturday afternoon in qualifying.

The LCR Honda team rallied around their premier class star after that crash, which left Bradl ninth on the grid for Sunday’s race at the Gran Premio Red Bull de la Republica Argentina.

Bradl was consistently fast throughout the weekend at the circuit where he was one of the few riders to test last year. Once racing commenced, the German battled with the frontrunners in the first half of the 25-lap showdown, though towards the end he lost some confidence with his front tire – eventually having to settle for fifth place.

“Considering yesterday’s crash in qualifying and the ninth position on the grid, I think we can be very happy with this result,” he reflected afterwards.

“I knew that we needed a good start from the third row and I made it. The first lap was a bit crazy but after that I think I played my role in the battle for the front group. We have been strong on braking and we were able to fight with the other guys.”

He concluded, “In the final part of the race I could not match the speed of the front guys because I had some issues with the front so I preferred to remain calm to finish my race in a safe and good position.”
