Michael Schumacher’s wife says the racing legend’s family wants to be left in peace as doctors treat him after a brutal ski crash.

Corinna Schumacher spoke out Tuesday for the first time since her husband’s Dec. 29 accident in the French Alps. In a statement, she said: “It’s very important to me that you ease the burden on the doctors and the hospital so that they can do their work in peace.”

Nine days into his coma, positive news is finally emerging from the Michael Schumacher camp.

Multiple authoritative media sources, including major German news agencies and television broadcasters, cited the 45-year-old’s manager Sabine Kehm in reporting that Schumacher’s life is no longer in imminent danger.

“This is a certain relief,” she is quoted by Spain’s El Mundo. “For the family, the situation is calmer.

The Grenoble hospital issued a statement today confirming that Michael Schumacher remains in a stable but critical condition, and underlined that there will be no more information for the time being.

The statement read: “The clinical state of Michael Schumacher is considered as stable and is constantly monitored by the medical treatments that are administered to him. However the medical team responsible underlines that they will not stop to consider Michael’s condition as critical.

A French state prosecutor said Sunday he wants to obtain an alleged mobile-phone video of a skiing accident that critically injured legend Michael Schumacher.

Schumacher’s fall at the Meribel ski resort in the French Alps eight days ago, in which he hit his head on a rock, has left the 45-year-old in a medically induced coma for a severe brain trauma. Questions have emerged about the circumstances of the accident, and Schumacher’s manager, Sabine Kehm, announced Saturday that his family has given French authorities a camera affixed to his helmet to help elucidate the case.

Michael Schumacher’s friends and family took turns by his hospital bed Friday, as fans rallied outside the hospital to support the critically injured great on his 45th birthday.

Schumacher has been in a medically induced coma since Sunday, when he fell while skiing and struck his head on a rock. His manager, Sabine Kehm, said Friday that his condition remains stable but critical.

The German driver and his family typically celebrate Christmas, New Year and his birthday at their ski house in the French resort of Meribel, where the accident happened.
