Kevin Magnussen and McLaren were fastest on the second day in Bahrain today as the teams gradually began to pick up the pace.

However, they are still far from the sort of lap times they are likely to achieve in full qualifying form come April.

Jenson Button topped the times in today as the McLaren MP4-29 made an impressive debut after failing to get on track yesterday.

Most of the teams have begun to log some proper mileage, but it was a troubled day for all three Renault runners as and did very few laps, and Toro Rosso spent all day in the garage.

F1: Eric Boullier Takes New Position At McLaren

McLaren has announced that Eric Boullier will take up the job of racing director on Feb. 3.

The former Lotus team principal will report to a new chief executive officer of McLaren Racing, who has yet to be appointed, and who will in turn report to Ron Dennis, who is head of the whole McLaren Group. In the interim, managing director Jonathan Neale will hold that position.
