Reigning World Champion Marc Marquez topped the first day of MotoGP preseason testing at Sepang in Malaysia.
The 20-year-old Repsol Honda star traded first place with Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi for much of the morning session, but as track temperatures dropped, so too did Marquez’s lap times. Bradley Smith is extremely confident that he and new Monster Yamaha Tech3 team-mate Pol Espargaro will be in a position to achieve great things heading into the 2014 season.

Pol Espargaro took his first title this year in the Moto2 class, whilst Marc Marquez made it three, adding the premier-class crown to his 125cc and Moto2 titles from years before. Yet looking back to 2004 it would have been tough to predict the future success of the pair, as they squared up in the national Catalunya 125cc Championship, as pictured.
