Scott Pruett claimed pole position for Saturday’s Tequila Patron Sports Car Showcase at Long Beach, leading a 1-2 in qualifying for the third round of the . (Sat. 6 p.m. on FOX Sports 1)

The Chip Ganassi Racing driver stormed to the top of the time charts early in the 15-minute session and kept his No. 01 Riley-Ford on the point, despite challenges from a half-dozen other Prototype contenders.

TUSC: Long Beach preparation new for many prototype teams

Prototype teams in the will have a short window in which to excel, in Saturday’s Tequila Patron Sports Car Showcase at Long Beach (LIVE, FOX Sports 1, 6 p.m. ET).

Four of the teams will race a Prototype for the first time on the 1.968-mile circuit, while four additional teams raced there only in 2006. The team with a leg up on the experience side is Extreme Speed Motorsports, which raced its two Tequila Patrón HPD ARX-03b/Hondas at the circuit last year, finishing 1-2 in the P2 class of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrόn.

Ford join IMSA as Official Automotive Partner

Leading the field to the green at this weekend’s TUDOR race at will be the new EcoBoost-Powered Ford Taurus SHO.

This new pace car signifies the beginning of a three-year agreement between Ford and the IMSA, with Ford now being the “Official Automotive Partner” of the and the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.
