star Reggie Wayne has been eagerly awaiting his return to the football field after tearing his ACL last season. So when his opportunity came on Wednesday, it’s only fitting that he made that most of it.

The Indianapolis Colts wide receiver rolled up to training camp in the back of a two-seater IndyCar driven by American racer and hometown hero Ed Carpenter.

“I want one of these,” Wayne told reporters after hopping out of the high-powered machine. “I don’t know how I’m going to get one, but I enjoyed every single bit of that. That was fun. I’m a guy that likes speed – this is one way to get that speed in me so I enjoyed every bit of it.”

Wayne is known for making grand entrances to training camp at Anderson University. In previous summers, the six-time Pro Bowl wideout arrived in a helicopter, military convoy and even a dump truck.

But his latest entrance took the cake.

“Ed and his crew are an outstanding group,” Wayne said. “They’re a first-class organization, just like the Colts. They did a great job of setting this up for me. I’m truly appreciative and I thank them infinitely for making this happen. This is by far my favorite camp arrival.

“I think it’s a sign for the Colts as a team. We need to come out fast. We need a sense of urgency. We need to come out moving with some speed.”

Finally, Wayne was asked if the race car was a sign that he got his ‘wheels’ back after being sidelined by a knee injury.

“I guess you can look at it that way,” he said. “I do feel fast. I do feel good. Hopefully I can go out there tomorrow and pick up where I left off.”
