TUDOR Championship: Dalziel leads ESM sweep of front row at Indy

Extreme Speed Motorsports has swept the front row at , with Ryan Dalziel flying to pole for Friday’s Brickyard Grand Prix.

The Scot reeled off a best lap of 1:17.603 early in the 15-minute Prototype qualifying session, edging out teammate Johannes van Overbeek in the No. 2 HPD ARX-03b by 0.276 seconds.

Jim Nabors reflects on 42 years of singing at Indianapolis 500

INDIANAPOLIS – He may have been born and raised in Alabama but it didn’t take long for Jim Nabors to become a true Hoosier – the term for a native of Indiana.

Nabors had already earned fame on television as “Gomer Pyle USMC” on the long-running CBS comedy, when he was invited to the 1972 and told he was singing “Back Home Again in Indiana” by a conductor for the Purdue University Band.

Quadriplegic Schmidt hits 100 mph at Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS – During his career as a driver, Sam Schmidt made three four-lap qualification attempts to make the starting lineup of the race from 1997-99. Schmidt’s best qualification effort came in 1999 when he started seventh in the 33-car starting lineup.

Yet Schmidt made his most impressive four-lap run Sunday morning, when he drove a specially prepared Corvette Stingray around the 2.5-mile oval.

It’s the latest attempt to generate interest in Indianapolis 500 Qualifying – an event that used to draw race day-sized crowds to the just two or three decades ago.

INDIANAPOLIS – J.R. Hildebrand has literally come “full circle” at and the driver can’t help but smile when he considers the irony of his return to the Indianapolis 500.

The day after last year’s , Hildebrand was fired by Panther Racing team owner John Barnes after crashing on the third lap of the race in Turn 2.
