Felipe Massa insists his Formula 1 career is not being put in the shadow by rising star and teammate Valtteri Bottas.

The warring Mercedes duo aside, the undoubted headliner of the last three races has been Bottas, a shy Finn who on Sunday completed a hat-trick of podiums.

Former F1 driver Patrick Tambay told RMC Sport he thinks Bottas, 24, is establishing himself as a “star for the next ten years.”

Bernie Ecclestone says he has no concerns about the Russian GP in the light of the MH17 tragedy.

While Ecclestone and the FIA have always insisted that motor sport is not affected by politics, it seems inevitable that in the coming weeks the international spotlight will fall upon the Sochi race and any other high-profile events scheduled to take place in Russia.

Lewis Hamilton did a superb job to salvage third in Hockenheim after starting only 20th, but while he put on a brace face afterwards there was no hiding his disappointment at losing more ground in the title battle.

Hamilton dropped from 15th on the grid after receiving a five-place penalty for a gearbox change. He also changed from Brembo to Carbon Industrie discs, although that did not lead to a pitlane start for a change to the car under parc ferme, as had been feared.

Hollywood lost one of its truly great actors Saturday with the passing of James Garner at age 86.

Perhaps the best description of Garner came from the New York Times, where it was written, “He was most at home as an iconoclast, a flawed or unlikely hero.”

Indeed.

But Garner was also a serious car guy.

Nico Rosberg won the German Grand Prix on Sunday to stretch his lead in the Formula One drivers’ championship over Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton, who finished third after starting 20th.

“It’s an amazing feeling to win at home. It’s a very special day,” said Rosberg, who led throughout to become the first German to triumph at Hockenheim since Michael Schumacher won in 2006.

Hamilton, who crashed in qualifying and survived a number of scrapes throughout the race, could not pass Valtteri Bottas in the closing laps and the Finn took second to give Williams its 300th F1 podium finish.
