Ferrari Formula 1 chief Marco Mattiacci says that discussions about a collaboration with Gene Haas for 2016 are still ongoing.
A technology partnership with Ferrari has been Haas’ aim from the start although the American insists that Mercedes remains a possibility.
“We are doing some progress and naturally to enter in Formula 1, it’s a challenge,” said Mattiacci. “You need to be competitive, and so I think there is, again, work in progress and probably a decision will be made in the coming weeks.”
Mattiacci made it clear that the U.S. connection was key.
“The positive thing I believe is to have Americans who start to look at investing in Formula 1, it’s really an important topic to stress. Because this is, at the moment, the largest and most important economy in the world. So, it’s a good sign that Americans start to look at investing in Formula 1. Aside, if you look at Haas or someone else, I really welcome United States to look in Formula 1.”
