Fernando Alonso gave the Spanish crowd something to cheer on Sunday when he chased down and passed teammate to finish sixth, but the result was far below the expectations of both the former champion and his fans.

Alonso, who ran a three-stop strategy, was 87 seconds behind winner at the flag.

Fernando Alonso could not resist a mischievous joke on Thursday when asked about teammate Kimi Raikkonen’s struggles so far in 2014.

Raikkonen has struggled notably at since returning to his 2007 title-winning team, but for the moment the high-pressure Maranello marque is backing him.

Coming unto the fifth round of 2014 season at Barcelona, one has to wonder if Alonso can pull off the same sort of victory as he did at this circuit one year ago.

If he does, it is sure to be a popular win, as the Spanish crowds have demonstrated their passion for the two-time champion before when he has won at home. With this in mind, let’s take a look back at some of the most memorable and emotional Formula 1 home Grand Prix wins.

Ferrari chassis technical director James Allison says that the team is still learning about the new regulations, and will improve the 4 T by the race.

“We are learning how to get performance out of this new set of regulations and hopefully to make this car more competitive,” said Allison on the team’s website.
