MotoGP World Championship leader Marc Marquez took over at the top of the combined Friday timesheet with a strong performance in FP2 at the Gran Premio Iveco de Aragon, ahead of fellow Honda riders and .

sensation Marquez was just over 0.5s off record pace for the MotorLand Aragon track with a 1’48.987 best time, which was 0.132s better than LCR Honda man Bradl and 0.267s faster than teammate Pedrosa’s best effort.

World Champion Jorge Lorenzo asserted his authority in FP1 at the Gran Premio Iveco de Aragon, with pair and behind him on the timesheet.

The form rider in the premier class at present, Yamaha Factory Racing man Lorenzo was determined not to let Marquez gain any psychological advantage early in the weekend and shot to the top at the end of the session with a 1’49.753 lap, to lead by just 0.008s.

The ultra-modern 5.077km track is comprised of 17 turns – ten left and seven right, and a long straight of 968m. The first Grand Prix was hosted in 2010, and was rewarded with the IRTA Best Grand Prix of the Year award, the first time a circuit had received the prize in its debut year.

Marquez struggled at the start, losing spots to Lorenzo and Pedrosa going into Turn 1. The rookie continued to struggle on a full fuel load, as a mistake on Lap 5 allowed to slip by for fourth.

“At the start of the race I knew that I had to be careful, but I made two mistakes,” Marquez said. “Maybe I was lacking a little experience; it’s my rookie season and it is normal to make a few errors.

Lorenzo Dominates San Marino Grand Prix

has won his second consecutive Grand Prix, winning the San Marino GP at on Sunday afternoon. The World Champion, who took the lead at the start, controlled the pace as championship leader beat to second position.

Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli has delivered another glorious result for Lorenzo, who has now flourished at the Adriatic venue for three years in a row. The win, which is the 49th of his career and 28th in the premier class, also confirms that the Mallorcan has won both Italian races on the calendar for a trio of successive seasons.

From second on the grid, Lorenzo shot into the lead as pole-sitter Marquez dropped to third on the opening lap. The latter would put on a spurt in the second half of the race, but by this point had fallen to fourth place due to an unforced error; Marquez recovered from his Turn 8 mistake to catch and pass both Lorenzo’s teammate and his Team colleague Pedrosa. However, as the two Honda riders engaged in a battle, Lorenzo’s already comfortable lead only grew.
