F1: Hamilton Pushing Hard To Keep Edge Over Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton says he doesn’t feel that he has asserted himself over Nico Rosberg, despite earning another pole in China today, thus giving himself a great chance of securing a third straight win.

Rosberg was down in fourth, some 1.3 seconds off his Mercedes teammate.

Nico Rosberg says tires will be the key to the , an event that has always put a big strain on the front left.

Rosberg starts from fourth, separated from teammate by the two Red Bulls.

“It will be a tough race, because the left front tire is a big issue,” said Rosberg. “For sure there will be things happening, some people will struggle more than others. I had a good run on Friday, so I’m going into it confidently, knowing that I’ve this Red Bull package in the middle, which is not very helpful. But that’s the way it is, and with the top speed that I have I’m hoping that I manage to get by them somehow.

Given how he finished last season, Sebastian Vettel’s start to the 2014 campaign has been humbling, to say the least.

Last year, the German reeled off nine straight victories, matching the record set by Alberto Ascari in 1952 and `53, to capture his fourth consecutive World Championship with ease.

Daniel Ricciardo continued to impress by earning second on the grid in a tricky wet qualifying session in China – pipping teammate by half a second.

Ricciardo didn’t have an entirely perfect afternoon, but did the lap time when it mattered.

“I think that was very pleasing to do it at the end,” he said. “To be honest, I struggled a bit throughout the session, at least personally I didn’t feel like I was getting on top of the conditions, but then the last set of inters right at the end of Q3 we managed to get a bit more out of it and I put a good lap together, so pretty pleased to be on the front row.”

Lewis Hamilton maintained Mercedes’ perfect record in qualifying this season, holding off the two Red Bulls to capture his third pole position of the campaign on Saturday at the rainy Chinese Grand Prix.

Hamilton broke the record for most poles by a British driver in Formula One and put himself in position for a third consecutive race victory on Sunday. Red Bull driver was about 0.6 seconds off the pace in second place, with teammate qualifying third.
