In front of 40,682 fans at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., Chad Reed became the third rider in as many races to capture a 450SX main event win this season.

On a night celebrating past champions of the sport, it was only fitting for Reed – the 2004 and 2008 Supercross Champion – to make a late-race pass on another two-time series Champion James Stewart for the win.

SX: Anaheim 2 Qualifying Report – Roczen Tops Both Sessions

Ken Roczen’s last visit to Anaheim, Calif. ended in triumph with the rookie taking his first career 450SX . Fast forward two weeks and it’s Roczen on top once again – this time in qualifying.

The Red Bull KTM rider led both timed practices at Angel Stadium with his quickest lap of 51.232 coming in the second and final session. A pair of Champions – (second) and (third) – trailed Roczen by less than one-tenth of a second.

The Champ returned to prominence in Phoenix with a very impressive ride through the field. The gap between Ryan Villopoto and his competitors is not very big right now, but if he starts to get on a roll it won’t be long until he is leaving them scratching their heads.

Each week, The Power Rankings will recognize the movers and shakers in Monster Energy . Villopoto’s rise to the top last week not only secured his first win of 2014 and the points lead, but also the top spot in this week’s rankings.

Anaheim was a wild night of action, as it should be for the hyped-up opening round. The racing was great and filled with drama and while the results may not reflect it, some riders had some stellar showings that should lead to a captivating season.

Each week, The Power Rankings will recognize the movers and shakers in Monster Energy . Thanks to his big win at the “Big A,” Ken Roczen secured pole position for the first installment.

1. Ken Roczen – Red Bull KTM
This wasn’t a fluke win. Roczen has always shown promise on the big bike so it was only a matter of time before he broke through for a win. Sure no one really expected it to be in his first full-time race, but that’s the nature of supercross. Put yourself in good position and its likely going to pay off. While it’s still early, Roczen has put his more experienced rivals on alert as a viable challenger each week.

SX: Roczen Earns First Career 450 Victory At Anaheim Opener

Red Bull KTM rider Ken Roczen won Saturday night’s season opener in front of a sold-out crowd at Angel Stadium of .

Roczen managed to lead 12 of the 20 laps and keep several championship-winning riders at bay to capture his first career 450SX Main Event win.

“This is insane,” Roczen said. “I got off to a good start and was holding on really tight. When there were four laps to go, I realized that I could win.”
