This is how a DeltaWing road car may look within the not-too-distant future, DeltaWing Technologies Inc. revealed Wednesday.

The futuristic-looking automobile is a very real machine in the sports car racing world, currently competing in the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship series.

Despite having yet to acquire a win, the DeltaWing race car has came far in just a few years of competition and boasts a highly aerodynamic and lightweight design.

DeltaWing intends on using this development to help one day develop a street-legal, four-passenger car. The DeltaWing has already won a lot of fans throughout the sports car racing world, and its aerodynamic design should be popular on the road as the reduction in drag will contribute to higher fuel efficiency.

“Many of the aerodynamic, lightweight and handling benefits of the race car can translate to the street,” said Don Panoz, chairman of DeltaWing Technologies Inc. “We are competing at the highest levels of road racing with half the weight, half the horsepower, and nearly half of the fuel consumption. We believe we can deliver similar results on the street without compromising safety, comfort and performance. We have a formula that’s highly efficient and still fun to drive.”

Company executives aim for performance targets of 130 mph top speed and fuel mileage of up to 70 miles per gallon using a four-cylinder engine.
