NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick also owns a booming vintage car business and he’s been known to buy and sell the best of the best in classic muscle cars. Hendrick is selling more than 20 cars at the 43rd annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction and he’ll doubtless be buying a few as well.
One of Hendrick’s cars that will be going across the block today is this lightly resto-modded 1972 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 coupe, one of only 101 cars produced with the 4-speed manual option, and one of only three to be produced in the lustrous Silvermist finish.
From the outside, the car looks stock and the interior does, too. But underneath the skin, this Buick has been heavily massaged. The suspension and brakes have been upgraded to modern standards of performance and the engine has been tweaked, too.
On Thursday night, a similarly resto-modded 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge sold for $100,000. Can this hot rod Buick break into six-figure territory as well? We’ll find out tonight.
